A BOOK DISCUSSION TOMORROW LAUNCHES THE RR LIBRARY CELEBRATION OF AMERICA’S SEMIQUINCENTENNIAL
Join us in the Library tomorrow, May 20, from 6:30 to 8:00 for a Book Discussion on not just one, but two, important history books published in 2025—both by Pulitzer-Prize-winning authors. We will begin with a discussion of The Greatest Sentence Ever Written by Walter Isaacson, an in-depth look at the second sentence of the Declaration of Independence. That will be followed by History Matters by David McCullough, a posthumous collection of thought-provoking essays and transcripts from speeches he delivered, many never published before, that affirms the value of history, how we can be guided by its lessons, and the enduring legacy of American ideals.

THE RR SEMIQUINCENTENNIAL READING CHALLENGE ALSO STARTS TOMORROW! BE A PART OF IT!
The four-month-long Celebration in the Robson Ranch Library, commemorating America’s 250th Anniversary, is about to begin! Everything will launch tomorrow—Wednesday, May 20th! Reading Challenge participants can sign up in the Library with a volunteer at the front desk, starting at 9:00 a.m. on May 20th. You will also be able to sign up in the evening on May 20th at the Book Discussion, described above. You can actually sign up anytime, during Library staffed hours, from May 20th through September 20th (if you sign up after the May 20th kick-off, you may still count any qualifying books you’ve read since the start of the Reading Challenge on May 20th). The Challenge goal will be to read the most pages of American History (non-fiction or historical fiction) during the four-month Challenge, which will end on September 20th. Why participate? So many reasons . . . Sharing the fun and patriotism of the event--right here at Robson Ranch—is just the beginning. You might even gain a greater sense of our nation’s history, form a connection with fellow readers, and maybe even win a PRIZE! A Directions & Rules for the Reading Challenge sheet is displayed in the Library and also posted on the Library website: www.robsonlibrary.org

THE LIBRARY’S FOCUS ON AMERICAN HISTORY HAS BEGUN!
Whether you plan to join the Robson Ranch Semiquincentennial Reading Challenge or not, you’ll find some wonderful selections to read on the Featured Books Shelf! From now throughout the months of June and July we’ll highlight our nation’s history with both non-fiction and historical fiction books. We invite you to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary with us! Perhaps you’d like to begin your journey through American history by learning more about George Washington. The RR Library has a number of books on him that you might find on the Featured Books Shelf: 2011 Pulitzer Prize Winner for Biography, Washington: A Life by Ron Chernow; 2018 National Book Awards Finalist for Non-Fiction, The Indian World of George Washington: The First President, the First Americans, and the Birth of the Nation by Colin G. Calloway; In the Hurricane’s Eye: The Genius of George Washington and the Victory at Yorktown by Nathaniel Philbrick; and The First Conspiracy: The Secret Plot to Kill George Washington by Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch are among them.

REMEMBER TO RETURN BOOKS YOU HAVE CHECKED OUT
With many of your Robson Ranch friends and neighbors focused on reading non-fiction and historical fiction books about the American experience (people, places, events and times) over the past 250 years, the demand for these books from the Library is likely to be quite high. That will make it even more important than normal to make sure everyone is returning books when they are finished or books that are checked out but are not currently being read. Please check your shelves to make sure you do not have overdue books sitting around. Thank you.

ABOUT THE LIBRARY
The RR Library, located in the CATC building, is open daily during CATC hours (6 am to 10 pm). Volunteer staff is available to help patrons on Mondays-Thursdays from 9 am to 7 pm; Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm; and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. (Note: You will need the free PDK phone app or $5 PDK card, available at the HOA office, to enter and exit the Library.)
